5x What to do in Milan

Are you planning to go to Milan, or you're still deciding? Maybe with those tips I can help you a bit out of the blue, because Milan is not only a city in Italy with pizza, pasta, warm wheater and Duomo! After I've visited it many times and living there for a few months I got some great insider tips, which I send to all of my friends when they're about to visit Milano!

1. Duomo

Yes, oke, of course when you visit Milan you can't miss the Duomo, it's in the centre of the city and everything is build around it, there's not one way which lead us to Rome, oops Duomo I mean... (; In 1386 they started building this Gorgeous cathedral, but in 1950 they finally finished it, but since I got here for the first time till now on they are still working on it. The Duomo is one of the biggest Roman-Catholic cathedrals in the world and the biggest one in Italy, so it's not just an usual church you'll find anywhere else.

When my parents visited me in Milan for a weekend we wanted to go in the museum, but what I really really wanted to do was to go on the roof! The view from there is amazing, you can see the whole city from above! A quick tip, be early at the ticket desk, we went around 9:30 and there was already a huge line... (I think we waited for an hour). You can buy tickets in different price levels: with roof, only museum, taking the elevator to the roof, take the stairs etc. A ticket cost around 26 Euro's.

2. Corso Como

The huge difference between the beautiful historical buildings and Corso Como is huge. The city has much Italian soul, but when you walk to Corso Como all this old history is faded away by new modern buildings and clubs. Go and have a look at 10 Corso Como, they have a beautiful bookstore and a nice cafe, which is mostly filled with editors, bloggers and fashion people with fashion week.

3. D Magazine Outlet

Oke so just before you read this, the clothes are still very expensive, but less expensive than they used to be. DMAG outlet might be my favorite outlet store in Milan, they got all the high end brands like D&G, Prada, Dior, YSL etc. for a more reasonable price, around 50-70% off from the normal price. Whoever loves fashion might want to have a look in this shop!

4. Naviglio Grande

This might be my favorite area in Milan, it's super cozy and in summer it is very busy at night, everyone is sitting on terraces and having aperitivo with a glass of spritz or some wine. On every last Sunday of the month there's a huge flea market throughout the day, which might worth a visit for those vintage shoppers!

5. Viale Papiniano Market

This might be my most favorite market in Milano, just to walk and wander around on here is already fun! On every Tuesday and Saturday of the week they close down the street and have a market with local food, fruits, vegetables, cheese, fresh pasta etc. They got everything there and it's so fresh! I highly recommend to go in the morning hours, since in the midday it gets mostly too warm and a lot of tourists spoil the market... In the morning you can find all the grannies doing their groceries for the weekend, I just love to watch them, what they buy, I mean seeing them buy zucchini flowers isn't that usual in the Netherlands right?
